"How to marry the spontaneity of a watercolor figure drawing with the discipline of a portrait?  What a challenge!  This project grew out of my 'Grateful to Reach This Day' oil series.  Watercolor, especially when applied to the slick surface of Yupo, seemed to age the faces as I painted them.  As an artist, there is a sense of power and powerlessness simultaneously in that experience of trying to capture likeness and spirit as your medium takes control."
