"Sticks & stones will break your bones."  So goes the children's rhyme but in my case they have become the way into a new subject and a new painting technique.  Wandering over hills and beaches provided me with a collection of sticks and stones, and sea shells and leaves that became the foundation for this series.  It's been exciting to experiment with a  wide range of mark-making materials: coffee, inks, crayons, chalks, pencils, acrylics, and, of course, watercolors.  The possibilities are infinate and the subject keeps pulling me to new discoveries.
