"Sometimes it's just fun to experiment with paint, shapes, textures, brushstrokes to see what emerges.  There are always happy surprises but then the real work begins.  Decisions must be made.  Compositon must be developed.  It's actually more difficult to paint an abstract than a representational painting.  There are so many more choices.  And, how do I know when it's done?  Pushing the paint around becomes hypnotic. There is always a little more I could do.  I need to force myself to stop.  Less is more."
